DEEP WEB AT KRAFTWERK BERLIN: A LIGHT AND SOUND EXPERIENCE IN MITTE’S INDUSTRIAL CATHEDRAL

DEEP WEB AT KRAFTWERK BERLIN: A LIGHT AND SOUND EXPERIENCE IN MITTE’S INDUSTRIAL CATHEDRAL

175 motor-driven spheres, 12 high-performance lasers and crystal-clear sound – this is “Deep Web” in the legendary halls of Kraftwerk Berlin (since 2007 also the home of Tresor). But the joint exhibition by lighting artist Christopher Bauder and composer Robert Henke is much more than just a technological masterpiece. Bauder, who as director of Whitevoidalready enthused with “Skalar” last year, has created an immersive work of art within the impressive architectural backdrop of the former power station, and you have to experience it yourself in order to understand the impact. The spheres seem to float in the air, changing direction, rhythm and tempo during the half-hour performance. Accompanied by Henke’s dark soundscapes, an artificial organism seems to be brought to life that at times recalls “Blade Runner”. And, with the current record breaking heat, the power plant is also probably the best place to cool off: so find a place directly under the installation, grab a beer and dive into a world beyond time and space. But act fast: Tickets for the one-hour live performances of the two shows next week are selling out! (Text: Hanna Komornitzyk / Photos: Benji Haughton & Kraftwerk Berlin)
