DESIGN BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH — FURNITURE, FASHION AND JEWELRY AT THE BLICKFANG DESIGN FAIR AT THE KANTGARAGEN
Didn’t make it to this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan but still dreaming of inspiration for high-quality, handmade and hip design objects? We have a solution for you – and it’s located in an architectural highlight to boot: this weekend (05-07.05.2023), the Blickfang international design fair is coming to Berlin – more precisely to the Stilwerk KantGaragen on Kantstraße in Charlottenburg. You could scarcely think of a better venue for such an event: this former multi-storey car park is an architectural gem, designed in the style of 1930s new objectivity. The fair takes place on its upper floors, and is all about discovering iconic design pieces while talking to designers. You can stroll, browse and marvel: at the custom-made furniture by Leipzig Werkstätten made from regional, sustainable woods, or the modular, progressive S4 solid wood shelving system by Nostudio (birch or oak? Tough decision). Or how about the timeless, simple bags by Zamt, whose classic elegance catches the eye and feels fantastic?
If you’re good for bags but still can’t find the perfect bed, maybe Jannis Ellenberger has something for you: his label of the same name specializes in beds made with sustainable oak and lots of character. Is the bed just for guests? Then maybe it’s worth taking a look at Jakob Schenk – specifically at his Freistil 164, which is the sofa bed of our dreams. If you’re on the lookout for fashion, you should definitely stop by the Berlin fashion label Susumu Ai, where traditional Japanese fabrics and kimono patterns blend with the European zeitgeist. But that’s far from everything: there is unique furniture, fashion, jewelry and home accessories – all lovingly made, all unorthodox and just waiting to become the next eye-catcher in your living room, wardrobe or – failing that – your dreams.
