LIFE’S PERFORMANCE: HENKEL & PITEGOFF AT BORTOLOZZI

LIFE’S PERFORMANCE: HENKEL & PITEGOFF AT BORTOLOZZI

With a little luck you might meet Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff in one of the beautiful rooms of the Isabella Bortolozzi Galerie. The artistic duo studied together at the Union School of Art in New York and have since relocated to Berlin. A few years ago, Henkel and Pitegoff became well known for Times Bar, a now discontinued temporary art space near Hermannplatz. The product of a collaboration with Lindsay Lawson, the venue was a place where artists and friends could drink and discuss the works of Simon Denny and Oliver Laric. The self-staging and self-dramatization of the guests, the performances of the bartenders and business routine was to be interpreted as a form of theater. Henkel and Pitegoff’s current project, New Theater, is inspired by the animation of those past times. It is a platform for both their own pieces and creative friends who have always wanted to work on stage. Hence it is no surprise that at Isabella Bortolozzi, the border between on – and offstage becomes blurred once again. (Text: Amelie gr.
