The swimming pools are getting emptier, the ice-cream queues shorter and the weather is beginning to break. Yes, the summer holidays are coming to an end. It also marks the return of Berlin’s theaters, including Ballhaus Ost, a small establishment near Helmholtzplatz whose season opens tomorrow (26.08.22) with Krispy Dream. Ein Portier denkt über sein Leben nach (“Krispy Dream. A porter reflects on his life”). The play is a new production from Meta Imbiss, a duo consisting of Stella Nikisch (direction and scriptwriting) and Nathalie Schatz (stage design). Combining theater with pop culture, the pair are enthusiastic about the gaudy aesthetics and tasteful plastic epitomized by the U.S. Therefore it’s only natural that their new play is set in the land of opportunity – in New York. It is a play about work and morals, society and structure, appearances, deception and projection. The whole thing is performed smartly, wittily and with style, featuring music by Matze Rohde, singer of Berlin indie pop band Von Wegen Lisbeth. It’s going to be a ball, we think.
