Our favorite summer accessory? The humble ice cream cone. We embark on strolls with only one goal in mind: to find a parlour that serves silky cold scoops in tastebud-tickling flavors. Hot on our radar at the moment is Early Bird in Prenzlauer Berg. Opened in 2017 by the amiable Lorenzo Lodi, the small café has since been supplying the neighborhood with artisanal gelato, handmade daily on site. In addition to classics such as hazelnut or mango, Early Bird offers an irresistible range of chocolate flavors: dark and raw, or with nuts. It’s thanks to its luscious vegan options that this ice cream parlour sets itself apart from the rest: like a rich pistachio or peanut butter & strawberry jam. Early Bird is open (almost) all year round, serving coffee (roasted in partnership with Kaffeerösterei RöstTeam Falkensee), pastry and sandwiches. Naturally, we prefer to savor a scoop or an espresso while soaking up the sun on the idyllic Winsstraße, but on a cloudy day a seat inside amidst the pretty botanical decoration is just as appealing.
