A TOUCH OF DADAISM AT SANDY BROWN: ALEX VIVIAN’S ART

A TOUCH OF DADAISM AT SANDY BROWN: ALEX VIVIAN’S ART

A high chair soaked with Vaseline. Porcelain dolls, toasters, fabric scraps, dog hair, crumbs and putty on a pedestal. Alex Vivian’s sculptures of used clothing and household items challenge the viewer’s first glance. At our favorite place in Berlin – Sandy Brown – his first solo European exhibition, “Scenes”, began yesterday. The program of this young gallery is conceptual and innovative, the curatorial approach refreshing and witty. It stands out amongst an often brittle, white cube atmosphere. Other than exhibitions, Sandy Brown presents film and video screenings, lectures, performances and book presentations. At the current show, Vivian transforms everyday objects and waste materials through new perspectives. He examines what is left behind after an event in real or fictitious life: objects, utensils, scenes or ideas are presented in different contexts, scrambling easy signification. (Text: Amelie gr.
