EINHORN — CONDOMS AND TAMPONS WITH A SOCIAL CONSCIENCE

EINHORN — CONDOMS AND TAMPONS WITH A SOCIAL CONSCIENCE

Good news: As of 2020, the VAT rate on feminine hygiene products in Germany will be reduced from 19% to 7%. This didn’t simply happen: it’s the result of efforts from numerous social actors, brands and personalities, including one of our favorites, Einhorn. The Berlin start-up has been around since 2015 when its founders Philip und Waldemar sought to change the world through their “Fairstainable” condoms: produced under ethical conditions from natural rubber. They have now expanded their range to include period products, made from organic cotton in Tanzania with 50% of all profits invested in social and ecological projects. With this latest change, tampons and other care products are no longer regarded as “luxury articles” but as the necessities that they are. And the team aren’t stopping there: their podcast and Instagram are breaking down taboos about menstruation, while their next mission is to revolutionize sex education with a giant citizens’ assembly. We’re fans! (Text: Katie Burton / Photos: Savannah van der Niet)
