ELISABETH SCHOTTE RECOMMENDS: TRAVIS MEINOLF AND HIS LOOMS

ELISABETH SCHOTTE RECOMMENDS: TRAVIS MEINOLF AND HIS LOOMS

Travis Meinolfs’ atlier is located on Neukölln’s Pflügerstrasse. If you’re lucky, he’ll be there working on his self-constructed loom and you can watch him weave through the window. You might even get an explanation on his work. Meinolf is a San Francisco native but has been living with his family in Berlin for years now. He makes his plaids and fabrics by hand at his work space, at home or just about anywhere, because a part of his concept is to share his knowledge and skills with others. He considers himself a “anti-capitalistic textile entrepreneur” and a “action weaver“; and therefore sets up his loom at places like museums and parks. He also constructs little looms so anyone can quickly pick up the weaving techniques from him. The results are amazing handmade pieces from filigree curtains to fabrics for dresses, warm plaids and thick and lavishly woven/sewn tapestries – all of them multi-colored and truly unique. Meinolf will be giving a workshop at Süper Store this Saturday!
