EMOTIONAL DIGITALISM ON STAGE — TRANSMEDIALE HIGHLIGHTS OF 2019

EMOTIONAL DIGITALISM ON STAGE — TRANSMEDIALE HIGHLIGHTS OF 2019

From 31.01.-03.02.2019, Transmediale, a festival for art and digital culture, will take a closer look at the role and influence of emotions on the digital world. The short film program, Breathing Solidarity, reflects on how society is increasingly shaped by populist media and authoritarianism. For it, Liza Johnson’s film, “In the Air,” fuses documentary and fictional elements to contextualize the global economic crisis locally and tangibly. Actress & Young Paint’s concert in collaboration with the CTM Festival – a world premiere – marks the first-ever live performance of Darren J. Cunningham, aka Actress, with his digital alter ego Young Paint on stage. The keynote Collective Moods in Precarious Times, on the other hand, will discuss how collective moods manifest themselves in social change. Analog emotions have long infiltrated the domains of digital culture, and yet Transmediale 2019 offers a critical reflection on the future without losing its humorous edge. Curious? Then check out the full program here. (Text: Hanna Komornitzyk / Photos: Actress, Geocinema, Graeme Arnfield)
