FENSTER COFFEE — BEANS WITHOUT BOUNDARIES

FENSTER COFFEE — BEANS WITHOUT BOUNDARIES

Since January 2016, Fenster Coffee has become coffee lovers’ new go-to spot in Berlin’s Wrangelkiez. Taking its name from the massive window facing the street, the space benefits from endless sunlight when the glass gets pushed aside on hot summer days, creating a seamless transition between the inside and the out. That fluidity reappears in the interior, where well thought-out, minimalist design reigns: Instead of a bar dominating the room, the only separation between customer and barista are two brewing stations. Walking in, a soothing, warm atmosphere sweeps over you, clearly inspired by Fenster Coffee’s founder Jasper Springeling and his colleague Jonathan Schneider. The duo met at Bonanza Coffee Heroes, where Jasper had been chief roaster. In coming weeks, Jasper will be creating a house blend (for both espresso and filter coffee) together with Fjord Coffee Roasters. Fenster Coffee also offers a menu of sandwiches, including the Grilled Moroccan Chicken and, my personal favorite, the Goat Cheese Salad, which features a crispy cut of Sironi bread topped with pistachio-crusted goat cheese, all nestled on top of fresh salad greens. A cup of freshly-brewed filter coffee from the Marco SP9 brew station makes the perfect match. (Text: Helen von der Höden / Photo: Sandra Bitz (top), Daniel Farò)
