TALES OF BERLIN’S BUILT ENVIRONMENT — ARCHITECTURE TOURS BY TICKET B

The best way to discover the architecture around you is simple: look up. Above street level, you’ll find a world of unusual facades, sustainable methods and new urban developments. It’s a perspective the team at Ticket B know pretty well – and they are keen on sharing the view. The company runs architect-led tours to Berlin’s most interesting buildings, revealing the city’s built environment and the history, politics and culture behind the bricks. Previous walks have included everything from celebrated housing estates to hidden architectural gems, though the focus is mainly on the contemporary: regular stops include the Axel Springer Campus by Rem Koolhaas and David Chipperfield’s James Simon Galerie. Some of the outings take place in a single district, such as Wild Wedding which, as the name suggests, is all about the multicultural Berlin neighborhood.

Starting at Gesundbrunnen, the tour takes you around the progressive designs and innovative renovations that are transforming (and, some would say, gentrifying) the area. Visiting sites like Lobe Block and Ex-Rotaprint, you’ll hear about the architecture itself and learn about the unique culture and social context of this rapidly-changing neighborhood. Armed with this knowledge, you’ll soon be looking up – and learning – wherever you go.
