DESIGN-FORWARD FRAMES WITH HIGH-TECH LENSES — HANDMADE IN BERLIN BY MYKITA

Ever been to a sunglasses shop or optician and been overwhelmed by the options? Offering you a helping hand are the specialists at Mykita, who know the secret to finding the right eyewear: time, personal advice and expertise. The Berlin-based brand has been creating and manufacturing cutting-edge frames in the Mykita Haus (formerly in Mitte, now in Kreuzberg) since 2003 and has gained a global reputation for forward-looking designs and high-quality craftsmanship. Their network of shops extends from NYC to Tokyo, LA and soon Mexico City. Whether you want sunglasses for summer or daily-wear spectacles, the shop staff will ask questions, study your face and use your feedback to help you pick the perfect model. It’s a process that can be long (they say to plan at least an hour) but also fun.

As for the designs, they are best appreciated in person, not least the head-turning MM6 sunglasses, which are made in collaboration with French fashion house Maison Margiela and feature an ultramodern “sunshield” design. Other collabs have included Helmut Lang and most recently Leica, who have brought their 150 years of optical experience to a range of stainless steel frames which, like most Mykita designs, can be matched with either sun or clear lenses. Speaking of lenses: the brand’s nine-layer Polarized Pro lenses don’t just shield the eyes from the sun but dramatically improve the clarity of your vision so those summer days look even more sharp. Whichever combination you go for, the price of your (sun)glasses includes a detailed in-store eye test and individual frame adjustment.

Until the end of July 2021 you can add a blue light protective coating for free with any glasses design.
