ISABELLE ROGGE RECOMMENDS: BAR-PROJECT KALLASCH&

They still exist, those authentic neighborhoods of Berlin where time doesn’t rush as quickly; where the big city life is still wonderfully normal and simultaneously full of variations. Where? On an island in the heart of the city: Moabit. Longtime Moabit-ers and cultural workers Dominik Borrmann and Luisa Traumann had always loved this authentic and diverse neighborhood, but one thing was missing – a bar with more to offer. So they set one up, with music, readings, and so much more. With Simon Ebser they brought an experienced barman onboard, and opened Kallasch& in the summer of 2014. Since then the quaint bar, with its random yet charming assortment of furniture, has offered a varying program. Things on offer include the literature series Hauser & Tiger, an open mic event, poetry slams, and the best of all: Mario Kart battles. Refresh yourself with a Berlin Bärenbräu, or pick from their selection of gins and whiskeys. (Text: Isabelle Rogge / Photo: Sandra Bitz)
