JONES ICE CREAM — SEASONAL FLAVORS IN HANDMADE CONES

JONES ICE CREAM — SEASONAL FLAVORS IN HANDMADE CONES

In the beginning of July 2016, the eye-catching Jones Ice Cream truck, the one you’ve been seeing all around the city for the past two years, has expanded its business with the addition of an ice cream store. The award-winning French pastry chef Gabrielle Jones, who has worked at various prestigious restaurants in Europe, was inspired to make American-style ice cream through a trip to the US. Thus, Jones Ice Cream serves egg-free ice cream, handmade every day with fresh milk and cream. Keeping it local, they get the seasonal fruits for their ice creams from Apfelgalerieright next door. Their signature flavor is a chocolate based ice cream with caramelized sugar, peanut brittle and peanut butter caramel. During the winter months you can look forward to flavors like Glühwein and Bratapfel (baked apple). I would recommend throwing in a few extra cents to get your choice of flavors served in one of their delicious, crunchy homemade waffle cones made right in front of your eyes. And there’s more: their heavenly cookies are soft and chewy on the inside and light and crunchy on the outside. (Text: Nicolene van der Walt / Photos: Sandra Bitz)
