JULIUS VON BISMARCK RETURNS TO ALEXANDER LEVY GALLERY

JULIUS VON BISMARCK RETURNS TO ALEXANDER LEVY GALLERY

For a break with the norm, head to Alexander Levy for the genius creations of absurdity, hilarity and seamlessly intertwined profundity of Julius von Bismarck. The artist/intellect/inventor returns to Alexander Levy, where he was the opening show in January 2012 with Punishment I, a video-piece in which von Bismarck reinterpreted a pre-Christian legend by traveling the globe from Switzerland to South America and the U.S with a whip in hand. As a modern Sisyphus, the video shows von Bismarck lashing everything that stands in his way, including ocean waves, mountains and monuments. As if that weren’t enough, von Bismarck painted pigeons across Europe and also invented a device that projects images at camera shutter speed, manipulating people’s photographs at important events and places. Were you there when Obama came to talk in Berlin at Brandenburger Tor? Go double check those pictures you took.

Alexander Levy, Rudi-Dutschke-Str.26, 10969 Berlin-Kreuzberg; map
Opening: Fri 26.4.2013, 18-21h
