THE UNSPEAKABLE 5 COURSE MEAL: JUST DESSERTS

Desserts can truly make or break a meal. But more often than not, I regret having finished everything on my plate, unable to take another bite as I face the most scrumptious sweets. Who decided that desserts, aptly called Nachspeise (literally “after-meal”) in German, must come at the end? Moreover, why can’t the whole meal consist of only desserts? Is devouring multiple servings of sweet morsels in one evening such a sin? The Store Kitchen team and Mary Scherpe from Stil in Berlin were sharing the same thoughts — and together decided to launch their blissful multi-course desserts-only meal series called “Just Desserts”. The menu consists of an aperitif of peach juice, barley and rum, followed by plum consommé with burrata, thyme and hazelnuts, a slice of heavenly and light flourless chocolate cake, a digestive of candied anise, and finally, turmeric macarons with salted caramel (my absolute favorite!). Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this is for real. And you don’t need to feel guilty about it either. Get your limited tickets here. (Text: Rei Matsuoka / Photos: Becca Crawford)
