KATHERINE SACKS & ASHLEY LUDAESCHER RECOMMEND: ZWEI DICKE BÄREN

It’s summertime, which means ice cream time! But we actually fell in love with the ice cream sandwiches fromZwei Dicke Bären on a chilly day this past winter, because their sweet flavors are just as delicious on a cold day as they are in the piping heat. Founders César Cotta and Cieran Rockwell landed in Berlin in 2013 and, inspired by the growing street food scene, decided to bring a bit of America’s sweet tooth to the city. Putting their backgrounds in design and marketing to work, they created their adorable polar bear mascot and came up with a name that is equally smart in both English and German. Inside their custom-built cooler, the Two Fat Bears have the classics covered with their Vanilla Chocolate Chip combo, and even better are their decadent flavor mixes like Double Chocolate with Caramel and White Chocolate Pistachio with Strawberry. You’ll find them spreading the ice cream sandwich love at street markets like Bite Club and Street Food Thursday, and, starting later this summer a special flavor will be available regularly at their partner shop Mos Eisley.
