KIOSKI — THE SNACK BAR FOR A LIGHT BITE WITH SANDWICHES, PASTRIES, COFFEE AND MORE

Those curious about mid-1960s modular design must visit the Kioski café and snackbar in the courtyard behind Kreuzberg’s Mykita and our friends from BAM. The café is a rare surviving example of a once mass-produced booth – the K67 Kiosk – created by Slovenian designer Saša J. Mächtig and brought to Berlin by café owners Ann-Marie von Löw and her husband Martin. From it they serve an impressive array of food and drinks to sleepy neighbors and hungry passers-by. A light, foamy cappuccino is a soothing start to the workday, especially if you pair it with a hot toastie or sweet korvapuusti, a doughy Finnish cinnamon roll with cardamom. Ann-mi’s Finnish background also shows in the sweet Finnbrod sandwich, with smoked salmon, sprouts, and horseradish, while the smoky scamorza cheese baguette with olives and sundried tomatoes is sure to satisfy lunch-goers in search of zesty, complex flavors. Kioski is a must-see for fans of retro design and authentic Finnish food, affordable lunches, and quality teas and coffees. Isn’t that everyone? (Text: Eric James Bain / Photos: Marc Brinkmeier)
