As satisfying as classic breakfast menu staples can be, taking the plunge into the unknown to sample something unfamiliar makes for a Sunday morning well spent. In Kreuzberg, the amiable team behind Distrikt Coffee: Sophie Hardy, Hannes Haake and Matthew Maue have recently opened their second café, Annelies. Their concept is as smart as it is simple: using seasonal and regional produce, they pair familiar ingredients with unusual ones to create novel and delightfully different flavors. Like blueberry granola with beetroot and creamy yoghurt. Or a smoked egg yolk with a dash of elderflower as sauce for drizzling over asparagus.
