COLLECTIVE ARTWORK WITHOUT HIERARCHIES: OPEN CALL FOR ANONYMOUS DRAWINGS

COLLECTIVE ARTWORK WITHOUT HIERARCHIES: OPEN CALL FOR ANONYMOUS DRAWINGS

When was the last time you picked up a pen and just started drawing? Has it been a while? Well, maybe you can consider this a sign to jump back into your creative career – or rummage around in your drawers for a drawing you already have – and submit the finished work (by 27.03.2022) to Anonymous Drawings. Professional artists are also welcome to submit their drawings. The only requirement is that the picture should be no larger than a piece of A3 paper. First, you send a photo of the work online – if your picture is selected, you’ll send in the original and ta-da: It will be exhibited as one of 500 this Summer and offered for sale for 250€. If your picture sells, you’ll receive €200, and €50 will go to the Anonymous Drawers for organizing the exhibition. This format, launched in 2006 by artist and curator Anke Becker, is based on a simple and ingenious principle: the artworks are exhibited anonymously. If one is sold, it disappears from the exhibition and the artist’s name and place of origin are written on the gallery wall. For the last round in 2018, 2,100 works were submitted from all over the world, 590 of which made it into the exhibition.

It’s a call to all who would like to present a drawing: Children, established artists, budding illustrators, professional illustrators and people who don’t normally do art alike. If you’d rather look than draw, be sure to check out the Anonymous Drawings exhibition (18.06.–31.08.2022) at Neukölln’s Galerie im Körnerpark. Maybe you’ll discover your passion for collecting art at the vernissage on 17.06.2022 And who knows: You might also make a five-year-old very happy by buying her work….
