KUTTERFISCH — THE FRESHEST FISH IN TOWN

KUTTERFISCH — THE FRESHEST FISH IN TOWN

In order to prevent overfishing, there are three rules to bear in mind as a consumer: avoid endangered species, buy farm-raised seafood or limit to local wild fish. The last choice is pretty easy – head to Biolüske. This organic grocery store offers fish caught by Sven and Steffen on Anna-Lena, their boat. They set sail from Hiddensee to the Baltic Sea to catch fish using their gillnets. Their fresh catch is brought to Berlin immediately, and available in the afternoon in Steglitz. If you can’t make it out there, try the Markthalle on Fridays and Saturdays. The offered fish may vary from season to season but service remains the same. If you prefer fillets, you can ask your fishmonger to clean and cut them for you. People say this is as fresh as it gets in Berlin – sounds about right!
