The house at Joachimstraße 20 is one of the oldest in Spandauer Vorstadt, the historical quarter of Mitte. Previously filled with dancers as the former Ballhaus, in summer 2015 it was transformed into a venue for seasonal cuisine. Laden, the name of this gem in Mitte, is a joint project by the designer and architect Katja Buchholz and the makers of Lokal and Kantine, Maren Thimm and Gary Hoopengardner. On the menu you will find delicious flatbreads, both savory and sweet, alongside salads and soups. In spring and summer, the ingredients come directly from their own homegrown garden, which is located in the cozy backyard of the shop. The interior has Katja’s touch everywhere, from the massive wooden tables to the wooden bowls and boards on which the food is served. The connection between nature thrives also inside, as the wood comes exclusively from regional surrounding forests. And the best part? All the products can be purchased directly or ordered from their shop. (Text: Katharina Pencz / Photo: Daniel Farò)
