In a short story from Schlachtensee, Helene Hegemann’s latest collection, an art consultant puzzles over a painting. The brushstrokes have the impressionistic quality of Monet — it even looks and smells like a 19th-century masterpiece. But the painting wasn’t created by Monet — it was printed in Amsterdam. Hegemann may not be discussing this story tonight at Hamburger Bahnhof, but she and painter Daniel Richter will certainly have plenty to talk about. Together, they’re launching “Crossroads#“, a new event series that brings artists and writers into conversation. What parallels exist between painting and writing? Where do creative paths intersect, and where do they diverge? Is the fear of the blank page real? Or is creativity, above all, a craft? In collaboration with Literaturhaus Berlin, the museum aims to create a space for dialogue between prominent voices in art and literature. The discussion will be moderated by Mathilda Legemah from Hamburger Bahnhof and Sonja Longolius from Literaturhaus Berlin. Following this kickoff event, the next Crossroads# session will feature multimedia artist Cemile Sahin and author Tonio Schachinger on 03.04.2025.
