LUKE MARSHALL JOHNSON RECOMMENDS: DARK & TWISTY

LUKE MARSHALL JOHNSON RECOMMENDS: DARK & TWISTY

Hidden behind a bus stop and peeking out from a semi-basement is Dark & Twisty, a Stehcafé-of-sorts run by a born-and-raised Berliner serving up what I find to be the best third-wave coffee in Wedding. “Coffee” painted in all caps on a plain white facade not only announces the café’s existence, but also fittingly embodies its unassuming approach: there’s no wi-fi, no WC, no “design-driven” interior. Aside from freshly-baked brioche, pretty much all you’ll find here is really good specialty coffee, with beans rotating weekly based on origin and monthly based on roaster. If you get your coffee to stay, there’s sunny sidewalk seating and a selection of international newspapers. Get it to go, and you can take a really nice walk north along the Panke (that’s my suggestion). Either way, if you appreciate good coffee, then I think you’ll appreciate Dark & Twisty.
