Walking through the exhibition “Luxury for Fashion – International Costume Jewelry of the Fior Collection London, 1950-1990”, opening today at the Kunstbibliothek, is like being in a treasure hall. Although none of them are real precious metals nor gems, the pieces are extraordinary and meticulously handcrafted. Showcasing about 280 costume jewelry pieces for the first time ever, of which around 60 are from Dior, you’ll find unique, elaborate, fanciful and dainty pieces. And funny ones too, like the so-called “conversation pieces”. Fashion photos of the time illustrate the jewelry in context. This is an exhibition for style aficionados and everyone who likes some good bling, because not only real diamonds are a girl’s best friend; rhinestones can make do too!
