-FESTSPIELE — A THEATER FESTIVAL BY ASPIRING ACTORS

Students of the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic ArtsBerlin and Berlin University of the Arts are attempting to add a little spark to the theatre scene. The concept is meant to reflect their engagement with theater today, offering experimental presentations rather than a mere talent watch. The blank space in front of the festival’s title (“-Festspiele”) symbolizes the moment of pause that the students prescribed to themselves as well as to the audience. So much about theory, in practice you’ll witness young actors enacting classic plays like “Oblomov” by Ivan Goncharov, “The Mission” by Heiner Müller, “The Castle” by Franz Kafka and “Drums in the Night” by Brecht (all in German, of course). The theme encompasses the denial of the principle of efficiency, the search for personal fulfillment and social responsibility. We’re looking forward to exploring their blank space!
