MERINO WOOL THROWS AND SCARVES BY MAISON ZAZA

MERINO WOOL THROWS AND SCARVES BY MAISON ZAZA

Berlin-based graphic designer Sophie Bayerlein has always loved a challenge, and in Autumn 2015 she took the step of shifting her designs off print and paper and onto the finest merino wool, in order to create the scarves and throws of Maison Zaza. The blankets take various elements of graphic creation, such as hand drawings and vector graphics, and combine them with Sophie’s keen eye for style to create huge, sweeping knitted prints that are almost poster-like in their beauty and precision, yet which form an eye-catching pattern from up close. The hazy geometric shadows of the black and white “Wave” blanket and the mottled monochrome texture of the “Fels” blanket are contrasted against scarves such as the “Magic Hand” with brighter blue illustrative details. The products never compromise on quality, as Sophie explains that alongside the aesthetic challenge, the mission is still ultimately to keep the wearer warm and cozy, and the series is all produced and knitted on a small scale in Germany. Head to the Maison Zaza online shop to browse the products, and wrap up in style. (Text: Antonia Harris / Photo: Caroline Scharff)
