MARIAMARIA — DESIGN MARKET AND PIZZA AT RURAL HOLIDAY RETREAT IN PRIGNITZ

MARIAMARIA — DESIGN MARKET AND PIZZA AT RURAL HOLIDAY RETREAT IN PRIGNITZ

Want to enjoy a cup of Japanese tea in Prignitz, a place that must be one of Brandenburg’s nicest regions? Well, you can – and much more besides – at this weekend’s market at MariaMaria. The holiday home in the village of Döllen is run by Marion, Bernd and Oskar Schönberger, who for two days will welcome designers, sellers and curators to their rural retreat. Besides tea, you will find handmade cups from small crafters in Portugal, local honey from Prignitz, Japanese Furoshiki wrapping cloths, bags, hand-knitted goods from Cashmere Sisters, quilts from Doris Runge, paper goods from Hungry Paper and much more. Speaking of hungry: there will also be freshly baked pizza plus waffles for a family-friendly countryside outing. Design fans are also catered for, thanks to the curative skills of Marion, a fashion designer and long-time event organizer at Clärchens Ballhaus, and her husband, photographer Bernd. The pair’s attention to detail is evident in their home, a listed former vicarage that accommodates 10 in four rooms with double beds and a large kitchen-living area.

The furnishings have been lovingly selected, with nothing left to chance: vintage wooden furniture, beautiful carpets and cushions give the place real warmth, while large windows give a view of the garden. Next to the rectory you’ll find a chapel, Maria zu den Engel (Mary to the Angels), which features a 450-square-meter hall with a vestry that can be used as a meditation or quiet room. Then there are the former stables and the expansive garden, which includes a fireplace. It’s an ideal place to enjoy a weekend escape with friends, whether it’s hiking, long dinners or just chilling out. While the house is fully booked this weekend, the market is the perfect chance to check out the location and start planning your MariaMaria getaway.
