Stumbling out of the Weserstrassen bar one night and passing by the BCR/DBR store, one thought came to mind (with a slight tinge of envy, I’ll admit): they did it, they opened a fashion-slash-record shop here. The enigmatic acronyms stand for two shops in one: Bass Cadet Records by Etienne Dauta and Down by Retro by Laura Le Marchand. Hailing from Bordeaux and Paris, and after living in Berlin for three years, the two best friends started their joint venture in June 2013. What ultimately unites the duo is their demand for quality. Their range of both new and vintage fashion, accessories and other objets du désir together with new and classic vinyls was all carefully hand selected; their fruits of labor come from love and attention to detail, a sense for contemporary longing and, well, sweet French accents.
