If you find yourself driving down a long road and at the very end a charming inn is waiting for you, you’ve come to the right place. Just make sure to double-check your coordinates – after all, Brandenburg has more than a few places with “Eisenbahn” in their name. But this one, Gasthof Zur Eisenbahn in Temmen-Ringenwalde, is the perfect destination when you’re hungry and craving downtime. The spot – in the hands of host Martin – truly is the full package: tavern, beer garden, and guesthouse. Inside, you’ll find a cozy room with warm wooden floors and a big tiled stove. Candles flicker on the wooden tables. On mild evenings, sit on the terrace: towering trees cast wide shadows, and a small chalkboard leaning against the wall lists a small selection of dishes. Equally small is the team, with often just one person running both kitchen and service. But that’s part of the charm: there’s no need to rush here (at least not for the guests). Good things take time.
Which means you get a moment to pause, exhale, and sip on something refreshing – perhaps a glass of house-made kombucha or vermouth. The food follows a clear, no-fuss philosophy. There are timeless classics that, when made with good ingredients, taste heavenly – like boiled potatoes with quark and linseed oil. Or, as on our visit, smoked trout with lentils – aromatic, earthy, and beautifully straightforward. The kitchen also leans Mediterranean with vegetarian options like cheese polenta or baked eggplant. And then there’s pizza – the ultimate crowd-pleaser. A thoughtful selection of wines by the glass rounds out the menu – just right for a late summer evening after a day at the lake. And if you want the relaxation to last a little longer: the old stable building has guest rooms, too. On our visit, they were fully booked, so no peek inside this time. But maybe next time – stretching the Uckermark escape into an overnight stay sounds like the perfect way to extend the calm.
