If summer decides to make a come back in Berlin this year, I am definitely planning to return to Helensee near Frankfurt (Oder). The long sandy beaches, beautiful sunset that seem to never end, crystal clear water and the surrounding forest put this lake at the top of my summer to-do list. Its close proximity to the city, about 1.5 hours by car, makes it a perfect day trip destination. There is a campsite next to the water for those who wish to stay longer too. Definitely the most beautiful lake I’d been to around here, so pack your bags and hit the road the next time the sun’s rays decide to break through the thick clouds over Berlin.
