NICKY AERTS RECOMMENDS: VOLTABERLIN

As the Torstrasse in Mitte is experiencing somewhat of a rebirth, the area north of it gets to enjoy a bit of the upswing too. With NoTo it even acquired its own moniker, Big Apple-style. It doesn’t come as a surprise then that more and more young creative people are finding their way to this end of the city. Take Gianni Plescia. He’s been around for a while. Makes lights and furniture on demand and is currently showing his work in a one month pop-up store right off Torstrasse. Smack dab in the middle of NoTo. Plesciamanufactures each piece on demand in his own little workshop in Berlin all by himself, using a wide variety of skills to build items in very limited numbers or as a single piece. The work he shows at the pop-up store breathes refinement, elegance and craftsmanship. But remember it’s a pop-up: It will be gone before you’ve noticed it. So make sure to drop by before September 8, 2012.
