NIYOK — THE TOOTHPASTE FOR GUILT-FREE BRUSHING

NIYOK — THE TOOTHPASTE FOR GUILT-FREE BRUSHING

My bathroom battle is against not just plaque but also plastic. The latter is more of a problem, given the heaps of plastic packaging lining the shelves of the chemist. The result: a hurt environment and a hurt conscience. Hope for change comes by the name of Niyok– a vegan, certified-as-natural toothpaste in a sustainable chalk-based tube. This toothpaste is all about what it doesn’t contain: plasticizers, waxes, stabilizers and fluoride are all absent. For Niyok founders Carlo Hanuszkiewicz and John Peitschner, it’s crucial to know what our toiletries contain and why. Thus every ingredient (like capric triglyceride) is accompanied by an explanation (it gives the toothpaste consistency). The battle in my bathroom has now taken on a new dynamic: choosing between Niyok’s lemongrass and ginger, blood orange and basil, and classic peppermint. (Text: Nina Trippel / Photos: Johanna Rademacher-Flesland & Niyok)
