PENELOPE’S SPHERE — A NEW SILHOUETTE FOR THE NEW SEASON

PENELOPE’S SPHERE — A NEW SILHOUETTE FOR THE NEW SEASON

Tamari Nikoleishvili originally completed her medical studies in Georgia, but then made the bold move of switching her focus to fashion and moving to Germany. After graduating in Fashion Design in Bremen and carrying out internships with Vivienne Westwood and Marjan Pejoski in London, she then founded her own label Penelope’s Sphere in 2004. In January 2016, however, she finally opened her own shop in Mitte, to house her beautiful clothes. Tamari uses her anatomical knowledge to mould her designs: where will the bones lie here? How will these clothes shape the silhouette? This approach means her creations move with the body, such as the “Sebastiano Dress”; wide, lightweight and flowing with every tiny movement, it places a delicate emphasis on the ankles and wrists. Her current collection holds a diverse range of styles, with androgynous pieces alongside more intricate designs. The fabric comes from smaller manufacturers, who often only produce a few meters per batch, meaning that the items are individual and exquisitely made. Check out the store, and maybe you will find a piece to take home and treasure. (Text: Helen von der Höden / Photo: Fredrik Altinell)
