POP CULTURE CONVERSATION: TALK WITH ARTIST PHIL COLLINS

POP CULTURE CONVERSATION: TALK WITH ARTIST PHIL COLLINS

He interviewed women whose lives had been destroyed by reality shows, offered dirty fantasies on a surreal shopping channel and made Palestinians dance to disco music for hours. British video artist Phil Collins – not to be mistaken with the popstar – isn’t part of the entertainment industry, but uses its media formats. His social and political commitment enters into dialogue with his documentary style production and exposes strategies that are often not even questioned by the audience. This weekend, University of Potsdam’s graduate program “Visibility and Visualization” invites you to an artist talk; Diedrich Diederichsen and Sabine Eckmann reflect on medial power dynamics in Collins’ work and its place in pop culture.
