DIANE BERGMANN RECOMMENDS: TEVE’S LAO SUPPERCLUB

DIANE BERGMANN RECOMMENDS: TEVE’S LAO SUPPERCLUB

There’s no lack of South Asian food in Berlin, but Laotian cuisine was a sensational and new discovery for me. Luckily, there is a Laotian supper club in the city now. At various locations, Teve, a truly charming host, prepares dishes from her homeland. It is important for her to keep them authentic, so she uses her mom’s recipes. Teve is based in New York but grew up in Laos without electricity or cars; and what they ate came from the family garden. As a refugee, the family resettled in the US and Teve eventually become a fashion and jewelry designer in New York. She moved to Berlin three years ago and has recently started the supper club where an opportunity to experience true Laotian dishes are offered. I’ve been there twice and loved it! The next event will be held in a beautiful space on a huge roof top with an incredible sea food menu – think crabmeat stuffed butterflied tiger shrimp served over a bed of lotus salad. There are limited amount of seats, so hush hush… reservation in advance is required!
