SELCUK CETINEL RECOMMENDS: QUÀ PHÊ

SELCUK CETINEL RECOMMENDS: QUÀ PHÊ

Berlin is famous for its endless range of new gastro-concepts. The city caters to a myriad of different tastes, and there is constantly the opportunity to discover somewhere new to enjoy a meal. With this in mind, Vietnamese café Quà Phê should be next on your list. Opened in 2014 by Hong and her team, it’s somewhere that’s impossible to just grab a coffee; you’ll end up wanting to stay and enjoy the laid back and comfy atmosphere. The food ranges from Xoi dishes (rice based) to Goi dishes (salads), with desserts like the milky banh bao and sweet sticky rice. My personal highlight from the menu is the braised pork banh bao paired with a glass of Bundaberg ginger brew, with other meat and vegetarian banh bao options available. For something sweet, I recommend the che thap cam with mung beans, tapioca, coconut milk and taro: it tastes as delicious as it sounds. The standard summer rolls and pho soup are not part of the experience here, and instead you should expect a well curated selection of exquisite dishes, each tailored to perfection. The Vietnamese Phin filter coffee is the perfect ending to what will be a lovely afternoon at Quà Phê. (Text: Selcuk Cetinel)
