A long-awaited addition to the Neukölln breakfast circuit has just opened its doors, and it’s one that feels familiar: The Future Breakfast has long been serving Berliners brunch delights from their food truck at Markthalle Neun, amongst other spots around town. Now, since late March 2018, amiable owners Katie and Flo have put down their roots at the lovely Böhmischer Platz. With its airy interior and minimalist furnishings, their café radiates an inviting charm. From the frequently rotating menu, we started with a classic: Eggs Benedict, which was accompanied by fresh chipotle mushrooms. The hearty pearl barley salad with a cashew-garlic dressing, sweet potatoes and fresh pomegranate satisfied in equal measure. For those who prefer to start their mornings on a sweet note, the stack of matcha pancakes with a side of juicy green apples, drizzled with black sesame coconut cream, does not disappoint — and is best washed down with a fruity and aromatic cup of The Barn coffee, which can be enjoyed all day long. Katie and Flo want to offer more than just mouth-watering breakfasts to their customers, however. There are plans underway to make the most of the square outside — perhaps by hosting a mini market with regional products. Setting up a composting station outside is another potential project.
