PLANT YOURSELF AT THE GREENS

PLANT YOURSELF AT THE GREENS

Needing a splash of color and a pick-me-up now that winter’s getting real? Head to The Greens, a leafy café and plant shop that’s part of the Alte Münze (old State Mint building) arts and events space. Among succulents and ferns (that can be purchased and taken home with you), The Greens offers a fresh lunch menu each day, with homemade soups and drinks guaranteed to bring the color back to your cheeks. The interior is lovingly arranged, with plenty of rustic wood to match the vibrant botanical life. Get cozy with a glossy cappuccino at a table near the crooked fig tree or tuck yourself away with a beetroot latte in the loft above the counter. Sage, peppermint, and rosemary herbal teas are all grown in the garden outside, as are the edible flowers dotting the fresh pastries and spongy banana bread. The Greens is also part of the Alte Münze community, hosting regular social events such as Drink and Draw Berlin. Marie, Alte Münze’s resident landscape architect, examined the yellow-striped leaves of an Alocasia Zebrina (Elephant’s Ear) while we talked. “It’s a family out here,” she explained, “there are a lot of artists.” Coffee, plants, inspiring people — this year, green is your antidote to the winter blues. (Text: Eric Bain / Photos: The Greens)
