Remember the unbounded sense of celestial wonder induced by a trip to the planetarium as a kid? Now overlay that with the latest digital technology and try to imagine the results. You don’t just have to speculate, however, thanks to Berliner Festspiele and Planetarium Hamburg’s “The New Infinity” (2018-2020), which carves out new artistic paths through digital technology and mobile architecture as part of the “Immersion” program series. Based on the concept of a planetarium as a portal to unbounded encounter, immersion and wonder, a cutting-edge “fulldome” (involving the technically maximum image impression of our time) invites artists to create new audio-visual productions at its Mariannenplatz location. Its opening on 26.9.2018 at 16h is followed by a host of captivating new works, performances and artist talks by David OReilly & Stephan Schwingeler (29.9) Holly Herndon & Mathew Dryhurst with Anna Grietz (6.10), and Fatima Al Qadiri & Shumon Basar (10.10). All talks will be held at 20.30h at Studio 1 in Kunstquartier Bethanien. The New Infinity will be concluded with two concerts by William Basinski/Evelina Domnitch & Dmitry Gelfand on 14.10 at 19h and 20.30h. Tickets via raffle — participate here before 7.10 and prepare to be a next-level kind of starry-eyed.
