It’s Fashion Week and the city is teeming with events, some of which shouldn’t be missed. The launch of the new, sixth People Edition “less” tonight (04.07.2024) is one of them. The small Berlin label launches an edition of exceptionally beautiful pieces about once a year, created by fashion designers Ayleen Meissner Uiker and Cornelia Zoller, together with young people at risk of addiction, mental illness or homelessness. Incidentally, 100 percent of the proceeds go directly back into the project. The result is fashion, accessories and design objects that are far more unconventional and original than the usual pieces designed to please algorithms, without appearing DIY, upcycled or amateurish. Whether wonky candlesticks, plates with bite marks, dresses with spray-painted labels, asymmetric bomber jackets, or knotted earrings, everything is handmade to an extremely high standard in the Berlin studio and always sparkles with a defiant sense of style and a longing for a different society. A wilder, freer and more inclusive one, in which beauty is not defined by large corporations but by the people.
