“Impractical formations” is Friedrich Teepe’s title for his indeed very impractical yet fascinating objects. The artist, who deceased in 2012, worked in Osnabrück his whole life and denied an international career; instead he preferred to teach at a local high school. “It’s great to contrast this self-made art world of 2014 with an artist with such a different biography”, says curator Eva Wilson about the exhibition, which was jointly created with Euridice Arratia. Seclusion did not diminish the quality of his artwork, but quite the contrary; he stitched screens and upholsteries, folded, cut and painted the large-scale structures with fascinating styles. His creations will be on display in Berlin for the first time this week. On May 3rd, a musical performance based on the number 3, by cellist Augustin Maurs with Louis-Philippe Scoufaras, will be held there in the style of an abstract musical lesson.
