Jamie Steward is the mastermind and the frontman of Xiu Xiu and its only steady member. Xiu Xiu’s sound is a clash of electro, pop, synthie, indie and singer-songwriter and can often be hysterically noisy and experimental – ok, so it’s not for everyone. Steward’s voice ranges from fragile to angry but always with a slight tone of agony. The videos like their lyrics are often thought provoking and deal with topics such as gender, sexual abuse or exploitation of factory workers. All in all the music of Xiu Xiu is unique and some of the songs will suck you in and stay with you; hopefully the same will happen at their concert next week in Berlin. Last time I checked, tickets were still available!
