THE BERLIN TRAVEL FESTIVAL: FOR PEOPLE ON THE MOVE AND WANT TO STAY PRESENT

THE BERLIN TRAVEL FESTIVAL: FOR PEOPLE ON THE MOVE AND WANT TO STAY PRESENT

Constantly Instagram scrolling? How about something much better: although this event offers at least as much inspiration, it has much more depth than endless swiping, and not just physically. The Berlin Travel Festival (01.-03.12.2023), founded by Bernd Neff, has set itself the task of showing you what’s possible when it comes to travel. You can discover destinations from the Barnin countryside to the North York National Park in England and Costa Rica. But of course it’s not just about getting to know places, it’s also about bringing people together. It’s for people who create and curate experiences and those who are looking for rest, relaxation and adventure. But you can also simply find the perfect travel backpack, more information about your dream tiny house, glamping inspo, eco-resorts and tips for your workation. Need another buzzword to motivate your travel buddies, climbing friends and hiking groups for a trip to the Berlin Travel Festival at the Messe Berlin?

Group travel is known to be particularly beautiful – here it comes: the photo area! This year, for the first time, there will be an area dedicated to photography with exhibitors such as Leica, Sony and Sigma. Head over to test products and ask questions, as there’s specialist knowledge at your fingertips. This way, there’s nothing standing between you and the perfect travel content. But hang on, it’s 2023, and by now we already all know that Insta-sensations can sometimes flatten out nature and people. So here’s a hint: the Berlin Travel Festival wants to make travel more mindful and has created a value compass that makes it clear: travel should be possible for everyone, but should also be sustainable. Environmentally friendly practices should be promoted and supported so that a positive change can take place in the travel industry – for an enriching travel experience for everyone.

WINTER MARKETS PART I — SUPPORT LOCAL DESIGNERS & CURATORS THIS CHRISTMAS

WINTER MARKETS PART I — SUPPORT LOCAL DESIGNERS & CURATORS THIS CHRISTMAS

December is the season for glühwein, Christmas decorations, and Winter markets! As the temperature drops, there’s nothing Berliners need more than cosy indoor activities to stay warm and inspired. We’ve compiled a list of the best Winter markets happening in Berlin this weekend (01.–03.12.2023). It’s all happening in Kreuzberg. Studio Linné’s Holiday Market will be showcasing the work of Berlin-based designers and curators. With designer fashion, vintage, glassware, knitwear, and so much more, this is one market not to be missed. Stop by on Friday evening (01.12.) to catch DJ sets by Refuge Worldwide. Avoid the last-minute stress and get your Holiday shopping in early at Helka Ceramnics Gift Shop. Shop Helka’s handmade dinnerware and ceramic objects, Sac Objects knitted creations using deadstock materials, and Oni Studio recycled silver and gold jewellery. DAMV Architektur is transforming its office space to host the DAMV Design Shop Xmas Edition. Discover interior design objects, ceramics, and fashion accessories. You’ll also get the opportunity to mingle with local creatives while enjoying a glühwein or steamy apple punch. If you’re not shopped off your feet yet, head over to Mitte where SNS Berlin is hosting a local creative market, Stuff, in their basement. It’s safe to say you’ll be able to get a good chunk of your Holiday shopping done here. Plus you can treat yourself on the day with a new tattoo, tooth gem, flowers or manicure. Next, stop by Pop Up Culture for a curated selection of designer and archive fashion. Expect timeless designer pieces, iconic labels, rare archive fashion finds, and selected 90s and 00s collections. Over in Friedrichshain “berlin, textile coop.” is hosting its first edition of its Design Christmas Market. Discover textiles from Panorama FabricsJasmin Viola SermonetJukka Samuli Herttua, and more.

BAILEYS TREAT LOUNGE AT SCHLOSS CHARLOTTENBURG — START THE CHRISTMAS SEASON WITH DELICIOUS BAILEYS-TREATS

BAILEYS TREAT LOUNGE AT SCHLOSS CHARLOTTENBURG — START THE CHRISTMAS SEASON WITH DELICIOUS BAILEYS-TREATS

Ever since the first snow fell on the rooftops of Berlin, our excitement leading up to Christmas has grown a bit, and now the Christmas market season has finally started. In addition to the classics among Christmas market delicacies, there is a very special offer this year at Charlottenburg Palace: in the heated tent, Baileys invites you to enjoy numerous sweet and savory surprises in their Treat Lounge. The Irish cream liqueur has been around as we know it today since 1974: high-quality spirits, rich chocolate and vanilla flavor – sounds like the perfect ingredient for Christmas treats to me. Whether it’s hot chocolate and brownies with a very special touch or cheese spaetzle, Baileys treats await you at the Christmas market that you’ve certainly never tried before. Where exactly can you find the tent? We don’t have to tell you – just follow the scent of fresh baked brownies and you’ll soon find it! With a view of the festively illuminated Charlottenburg Palace and a hot chocolate with a shot of Baileys in your hand, you can take a delightful break from the Christmas hustle and bustle without having to miss out on the festive atmosphere. By the way: if you fancy a refill after your visit to the market or would like to share your favorites with your loved ones, you can easily bake them yourself at home: For example, you can find the recipe for the chocolate cookies with Baileys glaze here.

A SMACK OF EAST COAST IN BERLIN — BESTE BAGEL & LAP COFFEE

A SMACK OF EAST COAST IN BERLIN — BESTE BAGEL & LAP COFFEE

For a long time, delicious bagels were one of the few culinary delights that Berliners had to travel to New York for – or at least to Friedrichshain, which felt a similar distance away, depending on your perspective. But things are happening in the city. Beste Bagel is the name of the latest store dedicated to endless squiggles, and the name says it all. Located at the northern end of Potsdamer Straße, it offers brightly colored tiles, creamy cream cheese, and, most importantly, perfect bagels. Suppose Tiergarten is too far away for a good breakfast. In that case, you’re in luck: Lap Coffee (Life Among People) on Rosenthaler Straße, known, among other things for its changing food collaborations, currently has three classics from Beste Bagel on offer: cream cheese (+Lox) or a vegan version with cucumber. Plus, Lap’s excellent coffee – Matcha and chai latte are also available! If you fancy something sweet, you should definitely try one of the “cubes” made from croissant dough: you can choose between Pistachio cocoa, salted caramel and hazelnut cocoa. What could make you feel more metropolitan on an early winter morning like this? The small, reasonably new store also offers other reasons to visit: changing art, lovely staff, and a concept full of charm: “creating small spaces where everyone can enjoy Life Among People;” sounds a lot like the East Coast.
