STOCUBO: CUBIC BOOKCASES FOR THE CONTEMPORARY HOME

STOCUBO: CUBIC BOOKCASES FOR THE CONTEMPORARY HOME

Stocobu, launched in 2000 in a backyard on Berlin’s Torstrasse, designs white bookcases to meet all our literary needs. The name is a play on words of the company’s founding artist: (St)efan (O)berhofer, and cubo (derived from cubos). Today, Stocubo is run by Julia Haneke and is still expanding, without relocating production outside of the capital. All shelves and variations are not only designed in Berlin, but also made here. Dedicated to longevity and resource efficiency, the company makes a point of using only FSC-certified, robust wooden boards, acquired through European manufacturers. Now the company has opened its showroom just around the corner from their production site. Here you can choose your own cubes and make the perfect bookcase to fit your collection. MIRNA FUNK RECOMMENDS: PAPPA E CICCIA

MIRNA FUNK RECOMMENDS: PAPPA E CICCIA

I love going to Pappa e Ciccia. I mean it. That’s also why I immortalised it in my novel “Winternähe”. Lola and Shlomo, my two protagonists, fall in the love there. And me? Yes, I too have fallen in love there. On many occasions. A week doesn’t pass without me dining there at least once. And that since its opening in 2006 – so over ten years ago. My all-time favorite is the salsiccia pasta. I’ve probably eaten this dish a hundred times. I don’t just come for the pasta, though, but also for the owner: Nicole Schuman. Formerly a photographer, Nicole found her Italian soulmate and moved Milan, then packed up all her culinary knowledge and moved to Berlin. Now, her experiences are being compiled in a cookbook, co-produced with Antje Wewer. Today (26.1.2017) is the last chance to help make their dream a reality through their crowdfunding campaign. I wouldn’t miss it for the world. (Text: Mirna Funk)

DAS NUMEN ART COLLECTIVE: INAUGURATION WEEKEND

DAS NUMEN ART COLLECTIVE: INAUGURATION WEEKEND

On Friday 27.1.2017, contemporary art gallery Dittrich & Schlechtriem is moving up in the world and into a more spacious venue behind the Volksbühne. Moving in with them is Berlin-based art collective Das Numen. Blending art and science, the four artists are known for their experimental studies of space, blurring urban and green settings while addressing environmental and social issues. Their installation is made up of several organ pipes – each up to five meters in length – which pick up the sounds generated by 20 weather stations around the globe. Translated in real time, the installation demonstrates global wind flows and weather patterns. Learn more about Das Numen and their unique project portfolio here. (Text: Victoria Pease)

RECAP: CEE CEE LESSONS N.5 ALGAE WITH BLOND & BIEBER

RECAP: CEE CEE LESSONS N.5 ALGAE WITH BLOND & BIEBER

Using algae to print on textiles? Thanks to Rasa and Essi of Blond & Bieber, we now know this is possible. At their masterclass together with Cee Cee Lessons last Saturday, the duo let us in on the secrets to their experimental profession, which we put straight to the test. You can see the results for yourself in our video. This time, the perfect backdrop to the event was the showroom of our colleagues at Made.com. Joining the event was once again the team from Bulleit, who first came up with the workshop-series with us in 2016. Soon it will be time for the next round of Lessons, in which we will put another material in the spotlight together with creative experts. If you’d like to join, keep a close eye on our newsletter – ticket giveaways are in the stars. (Text: Nina Trippel)

CEE CEE LESSONS 5: ALGAE WITH BLOND & BIEBER

CEE CEE LESSONS 5: ALGAE WITH BLOND & BIEBER

Since 2015, Cee Cee has been hosting interactive workshops together with select partners. In each workshop, we connect the Cee Cee community with the city’s makers and shakers, bringing their craft closer to our readers. This time, it’s the charming maker-duo behind Blond & Bieber, innovators in textile-based product design, who will introduce us to the topic by experimenting with algae coloring. Cee Cee, the Bulleit Whiskey team and our guests will be meeting at the Made.com showroom this Saturday. If you’d like to take part in the workshop, send an e-mail to win@ceecee.cc for a chance to win 2 x 1 ticket; deadline is tonight (19.01.2017, 23h)! To find out more, visit lessons.ceecee.cc and keep a look out on our Instagram and Facebook feeds.
