SWAP PARTY – FRESHEN UP YOUR WARDROBE

Swap not shop. Common Vintage and Likedby are holding a swap party in Friedrichshain. You are invited to bring three to ten fashion items, accessories and shoes in exchange for play money that you can use to “buy” other itmes. The nicer your stuff is the more cash value you get. You can also purchase the exchange money in addition. So get rid of your stuff that’s only been collecting dust in the closet for a fresh “new” look.

EVA KACZOR RECOMMENDS: GALLERY WEEKEND PICK

This week in Berlin it’s all about art. The Gallery Weekend and Berlin Biennale will get you ping-ponging across the city with glee. The blockbuster list of artists reflects how important this weekend is for the Berlin-based galleries. My two personal favorites: Matt Mullican at Galerie Klosterfelde and the fantastic Robert Longo at Captain Petzel. In addition, there’s an opening of a new space by Sassa Trülzsch right next to her gallery on Blumenthalstrasse and Anna Jill Lüpertz will be opening her fourth space called Contemporary Art by Appointment. To shed light on the madness, ARTberlin has chosen some of the Gallery Weekend’s most interesting events:

TING – THE SHOP FOR YOUR HOME, SWEET HOME

Ting is the ideal place to shop for gifts for friends or simply for yourself. Upon entering this airy store, it’s impossible not to find anything to pimp up your home. Laura Huppert is the lovely and helpful owner; she’s married to a Danish man and speaks the language perfectly, thus selects mainly Scandinavian products and completes the range with some Asian goods. You’ll find bamboo bowls, beautiful glass vases, wool blankets or socks and various cute little nicknacks. The best part is that although many things look pricey, actually they are pretty affordable. To fight your shopping exhaustion, I recommend getting yourself a single licorice stick and a fruit juice by Danish brand Søbogaard (apple black currant!). (Photos: Anne Deppe)

PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP SHOW OPENING AT STINK GALLERY

Some of Berlins most notorious photographers and 3D artists are presenting their work tonight at the temporary Stink Temporary Gallery on Brunnenstrasse. I’m curious about the pieces they’re going to show and have no doubt that you will see a large crowd in front of the gallery. The artists: Alex Flach, Angelo Cricchi, Corriette Schönärts, Daniel Josefsohn, David Fischer and Zeitguised. View the artists’ portfolios here.

AN UNDERGROUND DISCO NIGHT AT THE ZONE

You might think of Reuterkiez as a bar only zone, but there’ll be some serious disco there this Friday night. Enter “The Zone” through the ground floor where it feels like someone’s living room, then proceed to the cave in the basement to find it. DJ Emil (doesn’t drive), André Pahl and SpAcelex will be hosting the night and Carlo Simula and Jussi Kantonen of the blog and radio station “Overfitting Disco” will be spinning dark and psychedelic underground disco sounds. Think Italian horror movie meets Captain Future; whether you indulge or overdose in their dark disco hysteria is up to you.
