ALL NEW: COOKIES CLUB REVAMPED

I wasn’t quite sure if Cookies, Berlin’s legendary club, is capable of re-inventing itself. Wait till you see – they’ve created a whole new place on Behrenstrasse. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. The former dance floor has been separated into two areas: on the upper area there’s a bar called “Drayton“ with a dance floor deside it overlooking another bar on the lower level. Downstairs is an intimate labyrinth of tiny multiple theme rooms such as the mirror room, an altar and a porn theater. A new club with loads of potential for fun times!

You’ll find 20’s to 80’s fashion including colorful cocktail dresses, jackets, trousers, lots of hats and accessories. Since its opening two years ago, the Neonchocolate Gallery has hosted over 100 exhibitions. Currently there is an exhibition called “Compressed” featuring works by 50 artists at .HBC and tonight they’re having an auction! You’ll find works by 50 artists starting from 50€ to 8000 €.

CULINARY MISFITS – IMPERFECT VEGGIES FOR LUNCH

Tanja Krakowski is a product designer who became a culinary expert while working on her bachelor’s thesis; instead of creating a perfectly designed object she took a closer look at the imperfect vegetables that never make it to the ordinary supermarkets. Whether it is a heart-shaped potato or a three-legged carrot, Tanja loves them all, and this led her to sell them at the Markthalle IX. This weekend she and her new partner Lea Brumsack will show up again, only this time instead of selling their “Culinary Misfits”, they will exhibit some of the nicest oddballs and offer vegetarian meals made from produce grown by local farmers like Axel Szilleweit of “Teltower Rübchen”. You’ll also find day-old breads that were saved from being thrown into a dumpster – mind you, they’re all still good enough to eat. Lunch is around 4 to 8€, but you will get some food for thought at no cost. Visit their Facebook page to learn more!

STEPHAN DEISENHOFER RECOMMENDS: THE BARN

I must admit, the carrot cake at The Barn doesn’t look very appealing – a little shrunken and mushy – but remember the famous saying ‘never judge a book by its cover’; this carrot cake is worth the trip to Mitte. It’s a class of its own, hands down the best carrot cake I’ve had in my life so far. So the idea that this treat is even a little healthy seems absurd to me. But it doesn’t end here. At this small coffee shop you’ll find (according to many) Berlin’s best coffee, yummy sandwiches, savory quiches, friendly staff dressed in plaid shirts, a lovely wooden interior decor and a great logo.
