At Freunde von Freunden, you not only get to peek into private homes, but you can also listen to good music. Every month a featured guest puts together an online mix tape for the site and Oct was my turn. Their mixes are not the typical DJ mixes, more just a compilation of good tunes, so it’s a wonderful way to discover new music. The Berlinische Galerie invites you to their annual “Kunstnacht” after last year’s huge success, once again curated by Conny Opper (Berlin Festival, King Size Bar, Scala) The night promises a plethora of entertainment with live acts, performances, DJs, and live guides (mini tours through their art collection) I recommend to go early as it closes at 2AM.

Louise Brooks’ story is a tragic one. The 1906 born actress known best for her striking black bob was a star of the silent film era but never really made it when the sound completed the moving images on screen. Nevertheless, “Le Prix de Beauté” (“Miss Europe”, F 1930) was one of Brooks’ best movies and will be screened at Arsenal next Sunday with live piano performed by Eunice Martins. In the film Brooks plays a stenotypist who wins a beauty contest and eventually dies tragically. Incidentally it’s also the fourth birthday of of the series “Rising Stars, Falling Stars” presented by Vaginal Davis.
