ARS ELECTRONICA INVESTIGATES THE ART OF IMPERFECTION

ARS ELECTRONICA INVESTIGATES THE ART OF IMPERFECTION

“When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this: you haven’t”. Those are the motivating words of Thomas A. Edison, whose wisdom on failure provided the inspiration behind art, tech and society platform Ars Electronica’s upcoming digital media exhibition, “Error — The Art of Imperfection“. On view from 17.11.2018 at Drive. Volkswagen Group Forum — as part of an ongoing collaboration between the two innovators — the group show presents a range of cutting-edge interactive machines, video works and innovative sound installations. Each work explores the idea of deviations from the norm, taking the concept of “failure” beyond its common association with start-up land jargon to question how non-judgmental approaches to the idea of “error” can improve our lives both on a personal and global level. From visual forensics and AI to bitcoin miners and robotics, this show offers a much-needed positive outlook for the future, one tentative iteration at a time.
