BEYOND VISUAL RANGE: GET UP CLOSE AND DINE WITH MISSILES

Power symbols are at the center of Sebastian Schmidt’s new exhibition, “Beyond Visual Range”, currently on at KravtGallery. Inherently violent yet somehow serene, the artist’s large-format 3D renderings of hyperrealistic missiles arrest the viewer, rendering her defenseless in the face of the long-distance weapon technology that tends to be as abstracted by the media as its victims are anonymized. For visitors to Kravt, Schmidt’s series goes towards usurping that reality. An especially potent confrontation with the constructed realities of warfare will present itself on 27.9. & 29.9.2018, when Purgal & Kelm will host a five-course edition of their supper club in the gallery. A teaser of the menu: Rabbit with olive, rosemary, peach and wild herbs, and Zander fillet with blueberry, blood sausage, pumpkin and celery. Though the artistic subject matter may be hard to swallow, the food you’ll be served is anything but. (Text: Anna Dorothea Ker / Photos: c/o Kravt Gallery)
